Recent Exposure to Asbestos Claims

First, don’t panic ot worry too much. Though asbestos is a dangerous substance, it’s the amount of exposure to it that matters how ill you might become

If you are on the job and you think you may have been exposed to asbestos, here are steps you might take.

  • Step 1. Report your exposure to your employer. The details of the exposure should be recorded in your records and it should state the place, date and circumstances of the exposure.
  • Step 2. In a trade-union, report the issue to your union representative. They will normally send you a set of documents to fill in, which details the circumstances of the exposure.
  • Step 3. Get checked by your GP. Any amount of exposure to asbestos could create issues, so it is important that it’s detailed in your medical records. This is because exposure to asbestos can create symptoms that don’t become apparent until several years later – it can be up to 50 years later in some cases!
